Charity of the Month: Muscular Dystrophy UK
31.03.2015
This month we have chosen to donate to Muscular Dystrophy UK.
This charity provides support to people who have Muscular Dystrophy and help to fund further research into the condition.
Muscular Dystrophy is an inherited muscle-wasting condition that is very rare. It varies in severity, often causing children to be confined to a wheelchair by the age of 12. Completing basic physical activities becomes more challenging as muscles deteriorate further; often issues arise with eating and breathing.
Currently, there are no known cures or treatments for Muscular Dystrophy, although researchers are working hard to overcome this. Muscular Dystrophy UK also organise support groups and information for people and family diagnosed with the condition.
Sue Barker recently made an appeal on behalf of Muscular Dystrophy UK on BBC iPlayer and has been the chairperson for this charity for 11 years.
